Dr. Conrid Clyde Berry, beloved spouse, parent, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 14, 2023 at age ninety-two. Clyde Berry touched the lives of many with warmth, kindness, and an unwavering sense of compassion.
Born on September 27, 1931 to Conrid Clyde Berry, Sr. and Christine Leibrock Berry, two sisters Norma Jean Landen (deceased) and Mary Sue Hauck. Clyde grew up in Stuttgart, Arkansas where he developed a love for hunting and sports especially baseball. Throughout his life, he exhibited a passion for coaching young men leaving a lasting impact on those fortunate enough to know him. Many grown men attest to his ability to make them not only a successful athlete but growing boys into men. He was preceded in death by the mother of his three sons, Betty Jean McCartney Berry and middle son Joseph (Jay) Fleming Berry. Dr. Berry has been married for thirty-six years to his beloved wife, Jennie Sue Cullins Berry. He is survived by his two sons, Conrid Clyde (Trey) Berry, III and wife Katherine Berry; Matthew Clay Berry and wife Marilyn Phillips Berry. He was blessed with five additional children, Sherry Cullins Griffin and husband Ricky Griffin; Malinda Cullins Hogue and husband Kenn Hogue; Kimberly M. Cullins; Johnny Cullins and wife Peggy; and Tommy Cullins and wife, Lori. In addition, Clyde loved and was loved by a multitude of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Coach Berry was a dedicated educator, leader, role model and mentor believing and living to serve Jesus Christ. He demonstrated not only a strong work ethic but also an innate ability to inspire and uplift those around him. His impact on young men’s lives is a living legacy.
Conrid Clyde Berry was a highly regarded athlete in his high school career and excelled in his college career. It is believed he was the last survivor of the Stuttgart Rice Bird’s team of his generation. He was playing in the minor leagues with the Chicago White Socks when he was drafted and went to the Army to serve his country.
Dr. Conrid Clyde Berry’s departure leaves a void that can never be filled, but his spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him. The memories created and the lessons shared will be cherished as a testament to a life welllived and live on in the embodiment thru his family and friends.
A memorial service to celebrate the life of Conrid Clyde Berry will be held on Monday, December 18, 2023 at Calvary Tabernacle Church in Queen City, Texas. Visitation is scheduled at 9:00 A M. with service to follow at 10:00 A. M. Burial will be at the Lone Tree Cemetery in Stuttgart, Arkansas at 1:00 P.M. on December 19, 2023.
