Joan Birmingham McCord, 83, of Atlanta, Texas passed peacefully surrounded by her loving family on April 12, 2023. Mrs. McCord was born June 8, 1939 in Linden, Texas to Amos Harris and Mellie Hughes Harris. Joan was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Atlanta. She was a faithful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She was a member of the Amity Study Club, President of the Cass County American Cancer Society and Woman of the Year. Joan served on numerous committees in Cass County and worked with the Church Under the Bridge.
She is survived by her husband, Robert McCord; three daughters, Sheryl Smith Curry and husband Dwayne, Becky Birmingham Montgomery and Art Fischman, Cheryl McCord; two sons, Mark Birmingham and wife Doris, Chris McCord and wife Angie; god-son, Paul Holder; one brother, James Harris; six grandchildren, Jessica Clayton and husband Dillon, James Waylon Cornett and wife Heather, Amaris Birmingham, Clark Birmingham, Brock McCord, Blair McCord; three great-grandchildren, Brooklynne, Brayson and Hailey Dalrymple; one great-great-grandson, Cooper Cunningham; sister-in-law, LaJuan Harris and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Amos and Mellie Harris; husband, Neal Birmingham; two brothers, Raymond Harris, Kerlin Harris, and two sisters-in-law, Charla Harris and Pat Harris.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 15, 2023 at the First Baptist Church in Atlanta under the direction of Hanner Funeral Service with Gary Davis and Wes Mills officiating.
There will be a time of visitation from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Friday, April 14, 2023 at Hanner Funeral Service.
Interment in Pine Crest Cemetery with Bro. Todd Elliott officiating.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or St. Judes.
