Kay Mefford Haley of Atlanta, Texas passed away December 21, 2023, in a local nursing home after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. Kay was born October 28, 1936, in Huntsville, Kentucky to John Beckham and Pearlie Cook Mefford.
She and her husband, Charles, moved their family to Atlanta in 1975. Kay worked for many years at Northeast Texas MHMR and Atlanta Memorial Hospital.
Kay was a Christian by faith and played piano in church as a teen with her father leading the singing each Sunday morning. Her love of gospel music continued throughout her life and even as Alzheimer’s stole her memory, she was still able to enjoy singing her favorite hymns and expressing her love for Jesus.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Charles Haley, her sisters Ada Mefford Bowers, Marvel Mefford, Carolyn Mefford Kirkland, brothers Russell Mefford and John Mefford as well as all her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law and one nephew.
Kay is survived by her children Linda Haley Ware and her husband, Steve, of Atlanta, and Eddie Haley and his wife, Tammy, of Atlanta, grandchildren Jeffrey Ware and his wife, Hannah, of Fort Worth, James Haley of Atlanta, Paul Haley of Marshall, Haley Ware Elliott and her husband, Tanner, of Vicenza, Italy, one great-granddaughter, Evelyn Ware of Fort Worth, three nephews and one niece.
A graveside service will be held December 27 at 2:00pm at Alamance Cemetery in Atlanta, TX.
