Charles Douglas Pitts, age 81, of Atlanta, Texas, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at his residence surrounded by family. Charles was born June 3, 1942, in Mount Vernon, Texas, to A.E. and Molie Pitts and was raised at Blossom, Texas. He graduated from Atlanta High School in 1960, and was drafted into the United States Army during the Berlin Crisis. Charles work for thirty years for Mason Oil Company and was also the owner of Pitts Auto Sales for thirty years. He was a member and deacon of First Baptist Church, Atlanta where he lead singing in his Sunday school class, and was an active member of Gideon’s International. Charles also enjoyed hunting, fishing and singing.
He was preceded in death by his siblings, Dimp Marie Vick, Arge Lauter, Dorothy Pitts, Al Pitts, Rob Pitts, Linda Plum, Bill Pitts, Calvin Pitts, Wayne Pitts; and by his parents.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Shirley Jo Mason Pitts of Atlanta, Texas; daughters, Brenda Pitts Littlejohn of Atlanta, Texas, Shelia Griffin of Atlanta, Texas, Debbie Norton and husband Terry of Corsicana, Texas; sisters, Joan Clark of Lakewood, Colorado, Veda Watkins of Atlanta, Texas; grandchildren, Heath Littlejohn, Meredith Witten and husband Jared, Ben Butler and wife Crystal, Hope Gamble and husband Walt, Kathryn Griffin, Hannah Hughes and husband Matthew; great-grandchildren, Landon Littlejohn, Landen, Parker, Presley and Tripp Gamble, Lane and Maddux Witten, Jack Butler; and a number of nieces, nephews plus a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be 10:00 am, Saturday, January 13, 2024, at First Baptist Church, Atlanta, Texas, under the direction of Hanner Funeral Service, with Bro. Micah Harp officiating.
Visitation will be Friday, January 12, 2024, from 5 pm to 7 pm at Hanner Funeral Service.
The committal service will be private for immediate family only.
