Thomas Joseph McGowan Sr., Obit

Thomas Joseph McGowan Sr. (Tom) age 75, of Queen City, Texas, passed away on March 24, 2023 in his home surrounded by his loved ones.

Tom was born November 29, 1947 to B.B. and Lois McGowan in Bay City, Texas. He was a Vietnam Veteran, and served in the U.S. Army. Tom worked for Potlatch Paper Corporation as the paper machine superintendent in McGehee, Ark. He retired from Albany where he was a supervisor for many years and Regional Business Director. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Arkansas and served as president of the Couch Pit University. He was a Baptist by faith. He loved tailgating at the LSU football games and watching the Dallas Cowboys on Sundays. Tom enjoyed many hobbies such as; fishing, hunting, golfing, cooking, gardening, wood carving, and spoiling his grandkids. His greatest accomplishment was his family. He was a devoted and loving husband and father. Tom was loved dearly and brought so much joy to those who knew him. He was kind and always willing to offer help any way he could. He was truly a blessing.

He is preceded in death by his parents B.B and Lois McGowan, two brothers, Gene and Kenny McGowan and two children Lesa and Brent Johnson.

Tom will be fondly remembered by his wife Taylor and their beloved fur babies, Andy and Gypsy. His brother Buyck McGowan and wife Jan of Atlanta, Texas. Tom’s Children; Alissa McGowan and Jason May of McGehee, Ark. Joey McGowan and wife Sandra of Springhill La, Kelly McGowan of Texas. Jon Johnson and wife Lauren of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Jonathan Loris and wife Amanda of Queen City, Texas, and Bo Roberts of Mississippi. His Grandchildren; Alexis Moss and fiancé Jeff Woodyard, Nic Moss, Ryne Patterson, Brently Small and husband Blake, SGT. Zachary Reed and wife Brittany, Levi and Ryder Johnson, Brevin and Ian Loris, Kyle, Kyra, Laekin Campbell, Anna, Luke, and Landry Roberts. His Great Grandkids; Brinley Small, Maxine Reed, and Grayson and Baby Boy Woodyard. Two Aunts; Jessie Coker and Priscilla Coker. He will be greatly missed by a number of family and friends.

Services for Tom McGowan will be held at Hanner Funeral Service in Atlanta, Texas on Wednesday, March 29th. Visitation will be from 12-2 p.m. and the funeral will follow.

He will be laid to rest near his parents at Laws Chapel cemetery.
