The Atlanta Elementary School archery team is headed to the national competition in Louisville, Kentucky, on May 11-13. Sophomore Ty Waldon, who qualified as an individual, will also be competing at the national level.
Waldon ranked fifth out of 210 sophomore boys who competed in the state tournament held in Belton, Texas, on March 22-23. He also ranked third out of 75 sophomore boys who competed in the 3D Challenge.
The archery program is part of the National Archery in the Schools Program. Fifty-eight Atlanta ISD archers competed at the state competition, with 23 qualifying for nationals. They are coached by Bradley Coats, Dalton Johnson, Christy Patterson, Clay Waldon, Misty Williams and Serena Young.
“This is the first year we’ve had archery teams on the elementary, middle school and high school campuses, so to have a team qualify for nationals is an exciting accomplishment,” Williams said. “Our archers worked very hard this year, and we look forward to seeing this program’s success continue to grow.”
