Stephen E. Smith, passed away June 13, 2023 at local nursing home. He was born September 11, 1961 in Atlanta, Texas. Stephen is preceded in death by his parents, Judy Sartor Pursley and Billy Joe Smith; brother, Samuel Douglas Pursley; and his son, Micah Howell.
He is survived by his daughter in law, Philana Schuetz; grandchildren, Slevin Micah Howell, Athena Jade Howell; special cousins, Dana Dupree, David Dupree; uncle and aunt, Robert “Butch” Dudley and Charlotte Dudley; and a number of other cousins, family and friends.
Stephen was an ordained minister and helped manage a Houston based home for Veterans. He was a drug counselor and helped the homeless for many years.
Graveside services will be 2:30 pm, Friday, June 16, 2023 at Salem Cemetery, under the direction of Hanner Funeral Service, with Rev. Jeff Dotson officiating.
Visitation will be 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm, Friday, before the service, at Hanner Funeral Service.
