Gary David Stewart, age 76, of Atlanta, Texas, went to be with the Lord Monday, December 25, 2023, in a local hospital. Gary was born June 30, 1947, in Atlanta, Texas, to Porter and Eva Stewart. He was retired from Hanner Funeral Service; served with the Atlanta Fire Department, Cass County Sheriff’s Office and Cass County Emergency Management. Gary was also a member of First Baptist Church, Atlanta where he serviced as President of the youth parent organization for many years; the Cass County Peace officers Association and a past member of the Atlanta Rotary Club. He enjoyed hunting, cooking on cast iron, and was an avid outdoorsman spending every summer camping at Daisy State Park.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Gayle Stewart of Atlanta, Texas; children, Lana Paige and husband Bryan of Atlanta, Texas, David Stewart and wife Jennifer of Linden, Texas; sister, Kathy Long of Atlanta, Texas; grandchildren, Ryleigh Paige, Emma Stewart, Olivia Stewart, Kynsleigh Paige; special niece, Abbie Harper and husband Jon of Commerce, Texas; and a number of other nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Funeral services will be 2:00 pm, Sunday, December 31, 2023, at First Baptist Church, Atlanta, under the direction of Hanner Funeral Service with Bro. Dale Perkins and Bro. Wes Mills officiating.
Visitation will be Sunday, December 31, 2023 from 1pm to 2 pm at First Baptist Church, Atlanta.
Interment will be in Laws Chapel Cemetery.
