Hughes “Benny” Garrett, age 82, of Arlington, Texas, formerly of Atlanta, Texas, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, August 16, 2023, in Arlington, Texas Hospice House. Benny was born August 14, 1941, in Yazoo City, Mississippi, to James V. and Ouida Garrett. He was retired from Packaging Corporation of America; and was a member of St. Catherine’s of Siena Catholic Church, Atlanta, Texas. He enjoyed working on the farm, was an avid Willie Nelson Fan and loved working crossword puzzles.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and by his brother, James V. Garrett Jr.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Garrett of Arlington, Texas; three daughters, Leah Moore and husband Travis of Sugar Land, Texas, Laurn Whitt and husband Chad of Fort Worth, Texas, Lindsay Chilcott and husband Christian of Frisco, Texas; sister, Mary Garrett Jackson and husband Everett of Atlanta, Texas; seven grandchildren, Travis Moore II, Anna Barrett Moore, Michael Henley III, Taylor Moore, Jack Henley, Leo Chilcott, Ella Chilcott; great-granddaughter, Daisy Moore; and a number of other relatives and a host of friends.
Mass of Christian burial will be 10:00 am, Tuesday, August 22, 2023, at St. Catherine’s of Siena Catholic Church, under the direction of Hanner Funeral Service with Bishop Joseph Strickland officiating.
Interment will be in Huffines Cemetery, Bivins, Texas.
