Timpson Bears win State Championship

By Marlon Sullivan

The Timpson Bears brought home the 2A Division2 state championship. After making it to the semifinal round the past three years. The Bears started scoring their first touchdown with 7:25 to go in the first quarter. The Bears took a 21-0 lead into halftime. After fumbling the second half kickoff and Tolar scoring a touchdown with 8:10 to go in the 3rd quarter, the Bears reeled off 21 points in the third quarter to put the game away.

Timpson’s stud QB and CB Terry Bussey was even more spectacular than advertised. The A&M commit was a man among boys at AT&T. Passing for 311 yards and rushing for 155. He set two state championship records when he completed a 97-yard TD pass to Dacorian Johnson and then had a 93-yard TD run that also set a 2a state championship record.

The Bears added another TD early in the fourth quarter to make the final score 49-7. Not to be overshadowed was the Bear defense who shut down a high scoring Rattler offense. The Timpson secondary was exceptional, taking away everything Tolar threw at them.
