Gabe McCoart, Obit

Gabe McCoart, Obit

Gabriel Joseph “Gabe” McCoart passed suddenly from this life on Friday, January 19, 2024. He was 14 years old. He was an 8th grade student at McLeod ISD and a beloved member of West Side Baptist Church.

Gabe understood the joy of serving and giving. He was incredibly kind and had a special tenderness toward the needy, outcast or lonely. He was actively involved in multiple mission work endeavors and made numerous mission trips to work south of the Texas border in migrant camps, providing clothing, food , blankets, shelter, and sharing the hope of the gospel with people from all over the world. He was entirely ‘in his element’ when working with the disadvantaged in the migrant camps – no fear and with a heart full of desire to alleviate what suffering he could. Each mission trip would give him the much anticipated opportunity to create small gift packets from his impressive Lego collection to share with children and teens in the migrant camps.

Gabe was, also, an avid reader, skilled video gamer, and willing technical consultant to friends and family.

Gabe was most proud of his parents (Momma and Daddy) and the large and loving family God gave him. Every morning, he looked forward to hearing his daddy’s words, “Good morning, Sunshine, I love you.” Even when his dad was out of town working, he knew a call was sure to come to start his day with assurance of being loved. Upon each parting from his parents, he would say, “I love you.” Gabe knew the value of loving and being loved.

Gabe was predeceased by grandfathers, Fred McCoart and WD Lance.

Gabe is survived by his parents, Joe and Brenda McCoart and 8 siblings; Selena McCoart, Rachel (Blake) Crow, Lance Hawley, Chad Hawley, Emily (Ryan) Wasson, Jay (Megan) Hawley and Ryan (Kayla) Hawley. He is also survived by grandmothers, Veneda Lance and Jean Schales. He is survived by uncles Jeff (Paula) McCoart, Jason (Kaylee ), and Doug (Jennifer ) Lance, along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be 1:00 pm, Wednesday, January 24, 2024 at West Side Baptist Church, under the direction of Hanner Funeral Service, with Bro. Jim Howard officiating.

Visitation will be 11:30 am to 1:00 pm, before the service.
